Child Life Volunteer

As a child life volunteer at GBMC, I provide developmentally appropriate play activities for children at bedside in a combined pediatric emergency department and inpatient general pediatric unit. My other responsibilities include creating a seasonal interactive bulletin board and cleaning and organizing toys to maintain a safe environment.

Johns Hopkins Children Center

School Age and Burn Unit

I volunteered in the School Age and Burn Unit at the Johns Hopkins Children Center. I provide developmentally appropriate play opportunities for children in the playroom and at bedside for patients who cannot make it to the playroom.

Girls in the Game

Volunteer

As a volunteer with Girls in the Game, I led after-school programming for girls ages nine to eleven years old living in the inner-city. I taught different sports and health topics with specific program curriculum aimed at empowering girls with self-confidence and coping skills. I also managed behavior and engaged participants through the use of trauma-informed care.

Make-A-Wish Foundation

Wish Granter

I am a Wish Granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. As a Wish Granter, I meet with the wish child and their family to determine the wish, fill out paperwork and then report it back to the office. During the time before the wish is granted, I send the wish child and their family enhancement gifts and finally throw a wish send-off party!

Camp Korey A Serious Fun Camp

Volunteer Counselor

In July of 2016, I spent a week in Carnation, WA, volunteering as a counselor at Camp Korey. Camp Korey is part of the SeriousFun Children's Network which provides a wonderful camp experience for children living with serious illness. I was a counselor to a group of girls ranging from ages 8-12 with a variety of medical conditions. I inspired and empowered the campers with self-confidence and resilience while ensuring safety during all of the fun and adventure.
